The highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 will come with a unique pricing strategy, varying between Japan and the rest of the world. Dive deeper to discover how the pricing will differ for the various versions of the Switch 2.
Nintendo has decided to price the Switch 2 differently in Japan compared to the global market. The new gaming console will be available in two distinct versions: a Japanese-language system, exclusively for Japan, and a Multi-Language System for worldwide use. The Japanese version is set to retail at approximately $330, while the Multi-Language System will be priced at $449.99, marking a significant $100+ difference. This pricing discrepancy is largely due to the weakened yen against the USD, which makes purchasing in Japan less appealing for international tourists.
For those living in Japan, the option to purchase the Multi-Language System remains open. However, the Japanese-language system will be exclusively sold within Japan and can only be linked to Nintendo Accounts set to the Japanese region. This version will support only the Japanese language, and its eShop will feature software tailored specifically for the Japanese market.
Nintendo advises fans who prefer using the Switch 2 in languages other than Japanese to opt for the Multi-Language System version. Further details about this version will be disclosed on April 4.
Acquiring the Nintendo Switch 2 involves entering a lottery on the My Nintendo Store. Additionally, nationwide retailers and online shops will start accepting reservations or lottery entries from April 24, depending on stock availability. To participate in the My Nintendo Store lottery, applicants must meet the following criteria:
