"Locate the Hill Troll in Rune Slayer: A Guide"

by Jacob May 02,2025

As you approach the maximum level in *Rune Slayer*, tackling the Hill Troll becomes an appealing challenge. Not only does it offer a substantial amount of XP, but it's also an excellent opportunity to gather early endgame loot. However, finding this giant Troll can be a bit tricky. Let's dive into this guide on **how to find the Hill Troll in *Rune Slayer***.

Hill Troll Location in Rune Slayer

**The Hill Troll is concealed within a cave on the side of the mountain in Bahlgar.** Reaching this location is straightforward if you start from the elevator in Lakeshire. Head down to Bahlgar, as you would to battle Beastmen. Instead of engaging with the Beastmen, stick close to the mountain's wall and continue around it. Pass **two platinum deposits** and scan the sides of the mountain until you spot the entrance to the Troll's cave. To access it, you'll need to jump into this opening, ideally on **a mount**. It may seem complex at first, but once you've done it, returning to the cave will become second nature. Hill Troll – Strategy, Loot, and Quest

Despite its intimidating appearance, the Hill Troll is actually **one of the easier mini-bosses** in *Rune Slayer*. You'll likely need to face it multiple times, so familiarizing yourself with its attack patterns is key.

**Do not attempt to fight the Hill Troll alone.** While its attacks are predictable and can be dodged, teaming up with at least one other player is advisable. Many players enjoy farming the Troll, so finding a group shouldn't be difficult. After defeating it, the Troll respawns in just **90 seconds**, making it an efficient grind.

The Hill Troll wields a giant pillar for attacks that are slow but powerful. You can parry and block most of these, except for the overhead smash where it raises the pillar with both hands; this attack stuns, so you'll want to run. With sufficient damage, you can stagger the Troll. If you're playing as a **Warrior Class**, a well-timed Counter can almost always stun the Troll.

While the Hill Troll can drop extremely rare equipment, don't count on it. Instead, focus on farming **Troll Hides and Troll Heads**. Troll Hides are crucial for **crafting decent endgame equipment**, which, while **not the best**, will prepare you for tougher challenges like the Mother Spider.

**The Troll Head is a Quest item** for the repeatable **Hodor Quest.** You can hand it over to Hodor, located near the cave, every hour for a chance at random, potentially overpowered loot. If you're already farming the Hill Troll, it makes sense to engage in this quest as well.

Can You Tame the Hill Troll in Rune Slayer?

**No, you cannot tame the Hill Troll** in *Rune Slayer*, even if you're playing as a Beast Tamer Archer. As a mini-boss, the Hill Troll is too large and unwieldy to serve as a pet, and it might not even be able to leave its cave. Stick to taming more manageable creatures like the Mud Crab if you're a Beast Tamer Archer.
