Love and Deepspace is set to implement a new face verification system in China starting April 2025. This move may sound intense, but let's delve into the reasons behind it and what it means for players worldwide.
For players in China, this isn't a groundbreaking change. The country already enforces strict real-name authentication for online games, especially for titles rated 18+, which Love and Deepspace falls under in China. This measure aligns with China's efforts to combat gaming addiction among minors, as mandated by the Minors’ Protection Law. Over the years, China has introduced several regulations to manage the gaming habits of minors, including limiting playtime to 90 minutes on weekdays and three hours on weekends.
Additionally, games in China are required to display 'Healthy Gaming Advice' before players can start, encouraging breaks and responsible gaming. Facial recognition technology is already integrated into daily life in China, used for security in places like airports and banks. This new verification system for Love and Deepspace is just another step in that direction.
For players outside China, this change likely won't have any impact. The verification system is tailored to meet China’s specific regulations. Since Love and Deepspace is rated 12+ in most global app stores, there's no indication that a face verification system will be implemented for international players in the future.
