Universal Pictures has unveiled the first image from Christopher Nolan's upcoming film, "The Odyssey," showcasing Hollywood star Matt Damon in the role of Odysseus.

"The Odyssey," Nolan's latest project following the success of his 2023 biopic "Oppenheimer," reimagines the classic Ancient Greek epic poem, originally penned in the 8th or 7th century BC. The film is set to hit theaters on July 17, 2026.

Here's the official synopsis:

Christopher Nolan’s next film ‘The Odyssey’ is a mythic action epic shot across the world using brand new IMAX film technology. The film brings Homer’s foundational saga to IMAX film screens for the first time and opens in theaters everywhere on July 17, 2026.

"The Odyssey" chronicles the epic journey of Odysseus, the king of Ithaca, who embarks on a decade-long voyage to return home after the Trojan War. While Universal has kept further details under wraps, reports indicate that the film will feature an impressive ensemble cast.

Matt Damon was the first actor confirmed to be in discussions for a role in Nolan's latest endeavor, marking his return to Universal following the success of "Oppenheimer," which secured seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. Rumors suggest that Damon may be joined by a stellar lineup including Charlize Theron, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong'o, and Robert Pattinson.
