The much-anticipated *Monster Hunter Wilds* has just launched its day-one patch, and it's a hefty one, coming in at a whopping 18GB. Players should definitely download this update to enhance their gaming experience. Initially rolled out on the PlayStation 5, Capcom is expected to extend this patch to other platforms soon. Unfortunately, detailed patch notes haven't been released yet, leaving fans curious about the specifics of the update.
Many speculate that the large file size could be due to the addition of high-resolution textures. Review copies of the game reportedly did not include these, which are crucial for the game's visual excellence. This addition would justify the patch's substantial size, given the storage demands of high-res textures.
Since the patch debuted on the PS5, there's a possibility it includes enhancements tailored for the PS5 Pro. Capcom has confirmed that *Monster Hunter Wilds* will support PS5 Pro enhancements at launch, which could lead to improved performance for console players.
Bug fixes are another expected component of this patch. Despite Capcom's efforts to polish the game, some bugs have slipped through, and addressing them in the day-one patch is a common strategy.
Although termed a "day-one patch," players who pre-ordered the game can download it before the official release date. Those with slower internet connections should consider installing it before February 28 to ensure a seamless first playthrough.
It's important to note that this update, despite its size, is labeled as version 1.000.020 and is considered a minor update. It's primarily focused on enhancing gameplay and fixing bugs, rather than introducing new content. Fans eager for new material will need to wait for post-launch DLC. Three paid DLC packs are planned, alongside two free content updates. The first free DLC, arriving in the spring, will introduce Mizutsune along with event quests, while additional content, including new monsters and missions, is expected in the summer.
*Monster Hunter Wilds* is set to launch on PC and consoles on February 28.
