Square Enix recently hosted its NieR 15th Anniversary Livestream, unveiling a series of exciting events and updates to celebrate this milestone. Dive into the details below to discover what's in store for the NieR franchise and updates from the Re[inc]arnation monthly developer blog.
Square Enix marked NieR's 15th Anniversary with a variety of announcements for the franchise, including upcoming events and projects. During the livestream on April 19, they introduced the online Special Novel titled [U]ndecided Option.
This online novel will feature a total of three updates, with the first already accessible. The subsequent updates are scheduled for April 25 and May 2. The novel's synopsis teases, "Such a 'servant' meets a mysterious boy with a mysterious air and is guided."
In addition to the novel, Square Enix has launched a dedicated 15th Anniversary website. This site will serve as the main hub for the online special novel and other related projects and events planned for the anniversary celebration.
Square Enix is organizing an exhibition at Sunshine City in Ikebukuro, Japan, showcasing new artwork featuring the protagonists from Replicant, Automata, and Re[inc]arnation. Further details on tickets and other specifics will be shared soon.
Additional dates for the NieR: Orchestra Concert 12024 have been set for Osaka on July 25 and 26, and Tokyo on August 2 and 3. Tickets are available through a lottery system, with more information accessible on the concert's official website.
Various new merchandise items were also revealed, including a jazz album featuring newly recorded arrangements from NieR: Dinner Show – Somethin’ or Other 12024, set for release in December 2024. Additionally, the NieR Weapon Story book, which includes over 650 stories about weapons from Replicant, Automata, and Re[inc]arnation, and scale figures of the NieR series protagonists are on the way.
NieR's first mobile title, NieR Re[inc]arnation, will launch a developer blog series starting April 28, with monthly updates planned for the remainder of the year. These updates will offer insights into the development process of Re[inc]arnation.
Originally released in January 2021, the game was discontinued in April 2024 due to monetization challenges. The decision to start a developer blog for a closed game has left fans speculating about a potential sequel or remake, though no official statements have been made yet.
The livestream concluded with a live performance lasting over 20 minutes, featuring soundtracks from the entire NieR franchise. Square Enix promises more exciting events and merchandise announcements for NieR fans in the near future.
