Team Ninja has rolled out an expansive update for Ninja Gaiden 2 Black, now at version 1.0.7.0, introducing features like New Game Plus, Photo Mode, and additional enhancements. This patch, which was announced in response to fan feedback back in January, is now accessible on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, as well as PC via Steam and the Microsoft Store.
The New Game Plus feature allows players to embark on a new journey at any difficulty level they've previously conquered, bringing along their acquired weapons and Ninpo. However, these items will revert to Level 1 to maintain the challenge. Note that players cannot directly escalate to a higher difficulty using New Game Plus.
A notable quality of life improvement includes the option to conceal the projectile weapon on the player's back. This can be toggled in the Options menu under Game Settings with the "Show Projectile Weapon" option.
Regarding balance adjustments, Team Ninja has reduced the Hit Points of adversaries in Chapters 8 and 11, increased the number of enemies in Chapters 13 and 14, and enhanced the damage output of certain attacks by Ayane.
Several bugs have also been addressed, including issues with high-performance PCs, game-breaking bugs in specific chapters, and other minor fixes. You can find the comprehensive patch notes below.
Ninja Gaiden Black 2 made a surprise appearance during the January Xbox Developer Direct. This enhanced version, powered by Unreal Engine 5, not only improves graphic quality but also introduces new playable characters and enhances battle support features.
In our 8/10 review of Ninja Gaiden Black 2, IGN remarked: "Although featuring fewer but tougher enemies, Ninja Gaiden 2 Black falls short of being the definitive version. Nonetheless, it's a stunning and significant upgrade from its Sigma 2 predecessor, remaining a top-notch action game."
