During today's Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, Nintendo announced that nearly the entire catalog of Nintendo Switch games will be compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2. Additionally, several popular titles are set to receive enhanced "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" versions, featuring unique upgrades and new functionalities. The games receiving these special editions include The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and Mario Party: Jamboree.
Each game's Nintendo Switch 2 Edition brings distinct enhancements:
Super Mario Party: Jamboree introduces "Jamboree TV," which includes mouse controls, audio recognition, enhanced rumble features, and gameplay utilizing a new camera accessory.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom will benefit from improved resolution, higher framerates, and HDR support. These titles will also integrate with a new feature in the Nintendo Switch Online app called Zelda Notes, offering voice guidance to locate Shrines and Koroks, and the ability to share creations in Tears of the Kingdom via QR codes.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land is set to feature a new story exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2, titled "Star-Crossed World," along with enhanced graphics and framerates.
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will support mouse controls, and offer 4K resolution at 60fps with HDR.
Pokemon Legends: Z-A will see upgrades in resolution and framerates.
These upgraded editions will be available in both physical and digital formats. For owners of the original Nintendo Switch versions of Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Mario Party, and Kirby, upgrade packs will be available for purchase, allowing them to enhance their existing games for the Nintendo Switch 2.

The Direct also highlighted third-party titles receiving Nintendo Switch 2 Editions, such as Civilization 7 (with mouse support) and Street Fighter 6 (featuring exclusive game modes for the Switch 2).
The concept of "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" games was teased last week on a webpage that mentioned these editions in relation to the new Virtual Game Card system, noting that these games cannot be transferred to the original Nintendo Switch via Virtual Game Cards.
