Palworld Considers Expansion to Nintendo Switch

Bad news for Switch gamers eager to dive into Palworld: a Switch version is currently off the table. Palworld, an early access survival game featuring collectible, Pokémon-esque creatures, experienced a surge in popularity upon its early 2024 release but has since seen a decline in player engagement. Fortunately, a major update is on the horizon.

The Sakurajima Update, arriving June 27th, is the game's most substantial update yet. It introduces a new island, Pals, bosses, a higher level cap, and dedicated servers for Xbox players. While this update is expected to revitalize interest, it will initially be exclusive to PC and Xbox.

Currently, Palworld is an Xbox console exclusive, although a PlayStation version is planned. However, a Switch port is unlikely. In an interview with Game File (via VGC), Pocketpair's Takuro Mizobe cited technical limitations as the reason, suggesting the Switch's hardware may be insufficient. This doesn't rule out future Nintendo console releases.

Palworld's Uncertain Future on Nintendo Platforms

While unstated, Nintendo's upcoming Switch 2 console promises significant performance improvements. The Switch 2's power should theoretically be sufficient to run Palworld, especially considering its availability on the nearly 11-year-old Xbox One. However, Palworld's thematic similarity to Nintendo's Pokémon franchise might present a significant hurdle to its release on any Nintendo platform.

The possibility of a Nintendo console release remains uncertain. However, portable Palworld gameplay is achievable. The game reportedly runs well on the Steam Deck, offering mobile gaming for PC owners. Furthermore, if rumors of an Xbox handheld prove true, Palworld could potentially be playable on that device as well.
