Peter Parker Battles Godzilla in Epic Clash

What happens when the King of the Monsters crashes into the Marvel Universe? Marvel is answering that question with a thrilling series of one-shot crossover specials, and IGN is proud to exclusively reveal the next explosive chapter — Godzilla vs. Spider-Man #1.

This latest showdown follows the release of Godzilla vs. The Fantastic Four #1 in March and Godzilla vs. Hulk #1 in April. Like its predecessors, Godzilla vs. Spider-Man #1 is a retro-style story set in the past — specifically, in the aftermath of 1984’s Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars. The story unfolds just as Peter Parker returns from Battleworld, still adjusting to the mysterious black symbiote suit that has latched onto him. Now, as New York trembles under the footsteps of the colossal Godzilla, Spider-Man must face his greatest challenge yet — one that will test both his strength and his resolve.

Written by Joe Kelly, the newly announced writer for Marvel’s upcoming The Amazing Spider-Man relaunch, this issue promises high-octane action and nostalgic flair. Pencils are handled by Nick Bradshaw (Wolverine and the X-Men), with striking cover art from Bradshaw, Lee Garbett, and Greg Land.

“The second I heard that there was going to be a Godzilla x Spidey crossover set in the ‘80s, I almost leapt across the table to claim it,” Kelly told IGN. “This book is a chance to go nuts and have a blast with two iconic characters and channel the chaos of the time period that I was actively collecting Spider-Man. Nick Bradshaw really captures the absurdity of the concept and the vibe I was going for, while at the same time giving Godzilla and Spidey (in his perfectly-normal-nothing-weird-here-black suit!) the prestige and gravity they deserve. It's a love letter served with an earth-shattering roar!”

Unlike DC’s recent Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong, which features MonsterVerse versions of the titans, Marvel’s crossover series centers on the classic Toho interpretation of Godzilla — the original giant antihero born from atomic age fears and cinematic legend.

This announcement also arrives on the heels of IDW’s Godzilla vs. Los Angeles #1, a special anthology issue supporting wildfire relief efforts, with proceeds going to charity.

Play *Godzilla vs. Spider-Man #1* will smash onto shelves on April 30, 2025.
