Pirate Software has been expelled from the World of Warcraft streamer guild, OnlyFangs, following a disastrous run in Dire Maul North. The recent addition of Dire Maul to the World of Warcraft Anniversary servers has already claimed the lives of several OnlyFangs members in Hardcore mode, including Sara and Snupy.
Before Blizzard officially introduced Hardcore servers to the Classic client in August 2023, players created their own rules for zero-death runs. However, interest in these servers waned until the launch of the Anniversary servers in November 2024, which revitalized the World of Warcraft Classic community. Despite this resurgence, many Hardcore players have faced death, while a few have successfully reached level 60 under these stringent conditions.
The incident that led to Pirate Software's removal from OnlyFangs occurred during a Dire Maul North run. The group encountered issues after engaging a boss prematurely, before clearing a pack of Gordok ogres. When a party member suggested retreating to reset the enemies, Pirate Software left the group during the escape, contributing to the deaths of Sara and Snupy. Despite the possibility of remaining in the guild under normal circumstances, Pirate Software refused to accept responsibility for the mishap, leading Guild Master Sodapoppin to announce his removal via a Discord statement. The majority of guild members expressed discomfort in continuing to play with Pirate Software after the incident.
Criticism centered on Pirate Software's ineffective use of crowd control abilities, notably his failure to use Blizzard rank 1 to manage the deadly enemies without exhausting his mana. Sodapoppin highlighted this during a review of the run. Additionally, fellow OnlyFangs member Mizkif mentioned that Pirate Software's threats to other streamers post-incident may have contributed to his expulsion. Pirate Software took to Twitter to voice his opinion that the situation was mishandled.
As OnlyFangs continues to navigate the challenges of the Anniversary server Doomhowl, several members have been removed from the guild. Some may form new groups as Blizzard updates World of Warcraft Classic with Vanilla-accurate patches, potentially leading to more Hardcore deaths with the addition of new dungeons and raids.
