Sony has announced an increase in the recommended retail prices (RRPs) for PlayStation 5 consoles across Europe, Australia, and New Zealand, attributing the change to the current "challenging economic environment, including high inflation and fluctuating exchange rates." This decision was officially communicated through a post on the PlayStation Blog.
Effective from April 14, the new RRPs are as follows:
Europe:
UK:
Australia:
New Zealand:
It's worth noting that the price of the PS5 Pro remains unchanged amidst these adjustments.
Following similar price increases in 2022, the PS5 has become significantly more expensive in several regions compared to its launch prices. In Europe and the UK, the PS5 Digital Edition is now €100 and £70 more expensive than at launch, rising from €400 and £360, respectively. In Australia, the standard PS5 has seen an increase of AUD $80 (from AUD $750), while the digital edition has gone up by AUD $150 (from AUD $600). New Zealand has experienced a rise of NZD $130 for the standard PS5 (from NZD $820) and NZD $210 for the digital version (from NZD $650).
Interestingly, the RRP for the PS5 disc drive is being reduced to €80, £70, AUD $125, and NZD $140, offering a slight relief in the context of these overall price hikes.
