*R.E.P.O.*, the gripping co-op horror game that launched in February, has garnered a massive following, with over 200,000 players on PC. As fans enjoy the thrilling experience, many are curious about the potential for a console release. Here’s everything you need to know about *R.E.P.O.* coming to consoles.
Currently, *R.E.P.O.* is exclusively available on PC and there are no confirmed plans for a console release. The developer, semiwork, has not indicated any interest in porting the game to consoles. Instead, their focus remains on refining the game's multiplayer mechanics, which have encountered some challenges.
A significant hurdle for semiwork is the issue of cheating in multiplayer games. They are striving to enhance the game's multiplayer experience without compromising the integrity of the gameplay. The developer has expressed concerns about implementing an anti-cheat system, as it could interfere with player mods, which are an important part of the community's engagement with the game. "The main issue with matchmaking lobbies is hackers. But the issue with an anti-cheat system is that you’re ruining the experience for everyone who has made mods, because mods don’t work with an anti-cheat system. And we don’t want that," the developer told PCGamer.
While some PC-only games like *Mouthwashing* have successfully transitioned to consoles, it's worth noting that *Mouthwashing* is a single-player game, making the transition smoother. Other similar titles like *Lethal Company* and *Content Warning*, which involve sneaking past monsters, have also remained PC-exclusive. Last year, the developers of *Content Warning* mentioned considering a console release but cited technical difficulties. Since then, no further updates have been provided on a potential console port.
In summary, *R.E.P.O.*'s developer is currently focused on resolving multiplayer issues on PC rather than expanding to consoles. Until these challenges are addressed, it seems unlikely that *R.E.P.O.* will be available on consoles anytime soon.
