Amazon continues to offer some retired LEGO sets for purchase, including the highly detailed, to-scale R2-D2 set that was retired in January 2025. This set is currently available at a discounted price of $221.27, which is 8% off the original price. The relationship between Star Wars and LEGO, which began in 1999, has produced a wide range of products from child-friendly playsets to sophisticated models perfect for display. This R2-D2 set falls into the latter category, making it an exceptional addition to any Star Wars fan's collection.
While this set saw a price drop during Star Wars Day, it's unlikely to remain below the Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) for long.
Originally priced at $239.99, this 2,315-piece set is now available for $221.27 at Amazon. It's the most detailed R2-D2 set LEGO has produced to date. When it was first released, IGN had the opportunity to build it and praised the experience. Standing over a foot tall, this set allows you to pose R2-D2 in various ways, with all the movie-accurate features you'd expect. The third leg can retract, front hatches open and close, and the periscope extends from R2's head. LEGO's meticulous attention to detail is evident in every aspect of this set, from the colors to the wires, tubes, and lights, all designed to be as screen-accurate as possible. If you manage to grab this set before it's gone, it will complement some of the best LEGO Star Wars sets to build in 2025.
R2-D2's most recent on-screen appearance was in 2021 during the sixth episode of "The Book of Boba Fett," titled "From the Desert Comes a Stranger." This episode, which featured a CGI de-aged Luke Skywalker, the first and last live-action appearance of bounty hunter Cad Bane, and R2-D2, was rated seven out of ten by us. We noted that the episode focused more on The Mandalorian and nostalgic Star Wars elements than its protagonist.
Once LEGO retires a set, it often remains available at other retailers like Amazon for a bit longer. This makes Amazon an excellent place to purchase retired LEGO sets due to their extended inventory. Here are some other popular recently retired sets you can still buy:
