Ubisoft is charting an exciting path to elevate Skull and Bones Year 2, aiming to make it the most significant year yet for this pirate-themed multiplayer game. The year promises to be packed with thrilling content, including new game modes, ships, the introduction of a Kraken, and a much-anticipated feature—land combat.
During a special Year 2 showcase that premiered yesterday, Ubisoft unveiled its treasure trove of plans for the upcoming year. The highlight of the presentation was Season 3: Guts and Glory, set to launch in the fall, which will finally introduce the land combat feature that fans have been eagerly awaiting since the game's initial release last February.
In Season 3, players will be able to take the fight to land, engaging in swordfights and using firearms against other pirates. This new feature is part of the Rogue Warlord additions, where players will explore sandy beaches and damp caves to rescue skilled crew members known as Officers. A teaser video gave a glimpse of what to expect, but full details will be revealed later this year. While land combat is the headline feature of Year 2, the showcase revealed a slew of other exciting updates. Season 1: Ascent into Chaos, launching today, April 15, introduces an item ascension feature to enhance loot, challenging World Tiers, a new Schooner medium ship, and the team-based Death Tides PvP mode. Season 2: Oaths of War, set for summer 2025, will include Megaforts and the impressive Frigate large ships. Season 4: Eye of the Beast, arriving this winter, will introduce the Kraken, the Hunter’s Guild, and the Corvette large ship.
If these updates sound appealing, you'll be pleased to know that Skull and Bones will offer a free weekend from April 17 – 21, allowing players to experience the pirate PvP action firsthand. Additionally, the game will be available at a discounted price during this period, though the exact discount has not yet been announced.Skull and Bones launched on February 16, 2024, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X | S, earning a 7/10 in our review. Although Ubisoft has not disclosed specific sales figures, the company reported "record player engagement" shortly after the game's release. Notably, the launch of Skull and Bones also saw a 200% increase in players of Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag.
