The Spring 2025 anime season promises an exciting array of releases across Crunchyroll and Netflix, catering to fans eagerly awaiting new and continuing series. A highlight of the season is ***The Apothecary Diaries***, with its first season debuting on Netflix and the second season available on Crunchyroll. Fans of ***My Hero Academia*** can look forward to the spinoff *Vigilantes*, while ***One Piece*** enthusiasts will enjoy the continuation of the 'Egghead Island' arc following a refined re-airing of the 'Fishman Island' arc.
Below, you'll find a comprehensive lineup of anime set to release on either or both platforms from late March to May 2025, with key highlights in bold and select recommendations at the end.
I’ve highlighted ***The Apothecary Diaries, Once Upon A Witch’s Death, The Beginning After The End, To Be Hero X***, and ***WITCH WATCH*** in my roundup of Spring 2025 anime dubs coming to Crunchyroll, but there are some other great picks that deserve a spot on your watch list from the lineup above.
***Devil May Cry*** is Netflix's latest venture into animated video game adaptations. With a trailer featuring Limp Bizkit and a new Evanescence track, it's clear the creators are aiming for a specific tone that resonates with their target audience. Netflix has had a mixed bag with anime-style game IPs, ranging from successes like *Castlevania*, *Arcane*, and *Cyberpunk: Edgerunners* to less successful efforts like *Tekken: Bloodline* and *Dragon’s Dogma*. However, with Adi Shankar, the mastermind behind *Castlevania* and other unique projects like *Guardians of Justice* and *Captain Laserhawk*, along with Studio Mir, known for *Avatar: The Last Airbender* and *Korra*, this series has a strong foundation. Even if you're new to the *Devil May Cry* universe, fans of anime like *Trigun* will appreciate the adventures of Dante, the epitome of '00s edgelord charm.
In ***Moonrise***, the moon is on a quest for independence, a concept that might have the creators of 2021's *Moonfall* wishing they had thought of it first. This original net animation (ONA) boasts impressive talent, including animation from WIT Studio, known for *Attack On Titan* and *Vinland Saga*, character designs by manga icon Hiromu Arakawa of *Fullmetal Alchemist* fame, and direction by Masashi Koizuka, who helmed *Attack On Titan* Seasons 2 & 3. Despite the limited information available about the story, which was initially slated for 2024, the secrecy suggests we're in for a special treat.
Lastly, for those unfamiliar with ***YAIBA*** outside Japan or among younger audiences, this series has maintained its popularity since its late 1980s manga debut. Created by Gosho Aoyama, renowned for *Case Closed*, *Yaiba: Samurai Legends* follows Yaiba Kurogane in his comedic samurai battles against an arch-nemesis wielding a magical katana and a demon army. This marks the second anime adaptation after a brief TV run in the early '90s, with Aoyama actively involved in production this time. If you enjoy the style and humor of *Detective Conan* combined with the martial arts antics of early *Dragon Ball* and historical Japanese references, this is definitely worth watching.
