Squad Busters is celebrating its first anniversary with the launch of its monumental update 2.0 on May 13th. Since its debut in 2024, the game has struggled to capture the audience that Supercell had hoped for. With this update, the developers are aiming to turn things around and breathe new life into the game.
Squad Busters 2.0 isn't just a minor update; it's a complete overhaul, almost a reboot. The core mechanics of the game, from battle dynamics to victory conditions, are undergoing a significant transformation.
One of the most notable changes is the introduction of Heroes. Players will now select a Hero to lead their squad into battle. These Heroes are based on existing characters, and if your Hero falls in combat, it's game over for you. This adds a new layer of strategy and risk to each match.
Combat mechanics are also being revamped. Gone are the days of stopping to fight; now, movement and combat are seamlessly integrated, making the gameplay more dynamic, aggressive, and chaotic. This change aims to keep players engaged and on their toes throughout the match.
The way victories are achieved is changing as well. Instead of needing to eliminate every opponent on the board, players now only need to take down the enemy Hero. While some fans are concerned that this might make the game feel too similar to Brawl Stars, it's clear that Supercell is trying to streamline the gameplay experience.
To make room for these new changes, several old features are being removed. Modes such as Doppelgangers, Double Trouble, Epic Overload, Loot Machines, and Hatchling Herder are being cut. Additionally, some skins and the old progression systems are being phased out. Supercell plans to compensate players with Hero Points and other in-game items to ease the transition.

It's evident why Supercell is pushing these changes so quickly. Squad Busters hasn't yet reached the popularity levels of games like Clash of Clans or Brawl Stars. With the 2.0 update and the first anniversary approaching on May 29th, Supercell is making a bold move to reignite player interest. To celebrate, they're introducing daily piñata events, which will offer opportunities to unlock a new Hero, Mortis.
You can download Squad Busters 2.0 from the Google Play Store and experience these exciting changes for yourself.
