Stardew Valley's Creator Promises Forever-Free DLC and Updates

Eric Barone, the creator of the beloved farming simulator Stardew Valley, has reaffirmed his commitment to providing free updates and downloadable content (DLC) for the game. This assurance, delivered via a recent Twitter (now X) post, calmed fan anxieties regarding future development.

Barone, known online as "ConcernedApe," offered a strong statement in response to a fan comment about the ongoing development of ports and updates for Stardew Valley. He stated, "I swear on the honor of my family name, I will never charge money for a DLC or update for as long as I live." This emphatic declaration confirms that all future additions to the game will remain free of charge.

The developer also provided an update on the progress of these ports and the next PC update, noting that while they are taking longer than anticipated, he's actively working on them daily. He specifically mentioned dedicating daily effort to the mobile port and promised to announce any significant news, including release dates, as it becomes available.

Stardew Valley, released in 2016, has consistently received substantial free updates, including the recent 1.6.9 update which added features such as new festivals, multiple pet options, expanded home renovations, new outfits, late-game content enhancements, and various quality-of-life improvements. This commitment to free content underscores Barone's dedication to his fanbase and the long-term support of his successful game.

While Barone is also working on a new game, Haunted Chocolatier, details remain scarce. His unwavering commitment to Stardew Valley’s free expansion, however, provides a strong indication of his dedication to player satisfaction and demonstrates a remarkable level of respect for his community. His playful challenge to fans – "Screencap this and shame me if I ever violate this oath" – further solidifies his pledge.
