In the world of Hyper Light Breaker, players are presented with a vast array of gameplay options, including a diverse selection of characters known as Breakers. Each Breaker brings a unique playstyle to the table as they battle against the formidable Abyss King.
Unlocking new characters in Hyper Light Breaker is straightforward compared to other roguelikes, yet the game doesn't explicitly detail how to obtain these Breakers. This guide will help you navigate the process of unlocking new characters and provide an overview of the available characters in the early access version of the game. We'll keep this guide updated as more characters become available.
To unlock new characters, you'll need Abyss Stones, which are rare drops from the Crowns, the game's bosses. Before you can take on these bosses, you'll need to collect Prisms, which serve as keys to the boss arenas. These can be found by following the golden diamond icons on the map.
After defeating a boss, return to the Cursed Outpost via the teleporter and choose the Breaker you wish to unlock. Use your Abyss Stones to unlock the selected character, making them playable. While there are nine characters in total, the early access version currently offers only two unlockable characters, both of which require Abyss Stones to unlock. The method for unlocking the remaining characters is still unknown.
Each character in Hyper Light Breaker begins with a SyCom, a crucial item that sets their base stats and core perk, shaping their unique playstyle. Here’s a detailed look at each character and their distinct gameplay approaches.
Vermillion is your starting character and comes equipped with the Gunslinger SyCom, which enhances his stats for ranged combat. His Rail shots have a unique feature: a critical hit guarantees the next shot will also be a crit.
For those who prefer melee combat, Vermillion can unlock the Tank SyCom, which boosts armor after perfect parries and offers superior defensive and melee stats compared to Gunslinger, making it a safer choice overall.
Lapis begins with the Lightweaver SyCom, tailored for Rail combat, boosting damage after picking up a Battery. However, her standout feature is the Warrior SyCom, which increases her core stats with each upgrade she receives.
Lapis is a formidable character with either SyCom, but the Warrior SyCom makes her a long-term powerhouse. With enough upgrades, Lapis can surpass other Breakers in raw stats, turning her into an unstoppable force.
Goro focuses on ranged combat with his default Astrologer SyCom, which speeds up his Blade skills while shooting. The unlockable Sniper SyCom further enhances his critical hit rate.
Goro falls into the category of a ranged glass cannon, offering high damage output but lacking defensive options. Mastering Goro requires skill, but once you do, his potential as an effective fighter is unmatched.
