Arctic Hazard unveils Norse, a captivating new strategy game reminiscent of XCOM, but set against the dramatic backdrop of Viking-era Norway. This historically-rich title promises a deeply immersive experience, further enhanced by the involvement of award-winning author Giles Kristian, who is crafting the game's compelling narrative.
The gaming landscape is replete with medieval fantasy settings, but Norse carves its own niche. While games like Manor Lords and Medieval Dynasty offer medieval European experiences with survival elements, and Imperator: Rome lets players navigate the Roman Empire, Norse focuses on the Vikings.
Norse is a turn-based strategy game, echoing the XCOM formula, but steeped in the lore of ancient Norway. Players follow Gunnar, a young warrior driven by revenge, as he hunts the killer of his father and fellow countrymen. Building a settlement and assembling a formidable Viking army is key to his quest, contrasting with the open-world exploration and construction focus of games like Valheim. Norse prioritizes its narrative-driven gameplay.
Norse: A Fresh Take on Viking Strategy
To guarantee historical accuracy and an enthralling story, Arctic Hazard partnered with Giles Kristian, a Sunday Times best-selling author, to pen the script. Kristian, with over a million books sold and a prolific output of Viking-themed novels, brings unparalleled expertise. The game's trailer showcases a commitment to authentically portraying Norway, promising a memorable Viking experience.
Further details on Norse's gameplay mechanics are available on Arctic Hazard's website. Players will oversee their village, managing resources and upgrading their Viking warriors' equipment. Unit customization is central, with diverse classes like the ferocious Berserker and the ranged Bogmathr archer, each bringing unique tactical advantages.
Developed using Unreal Engine 5, Norse is slated for release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Players can add Norse to their Steam wishlists now, though a release date remains unannounced.
