Warner Bros. Games is shutting down its mobile title, Mortal Kombat: Onslaught, less than a year after its launch. The game was removed from the Google Play Store and App Store on July 22nd, 2024, with in-app purchases ceasing on August 23rd, 2024. Servers will finally go offline on October 21st, 2024, bringing an end to the brutal beat 'em up experience.

While official reasons for the shutdown remain undisclosed, the recent closure of NetherRealm's mobile games division (responsible for Mortal Kombat Mobile and Injustice) suggests a potential shift in the company's mobile game strategy.

The fate of in-game purchases is currently unclear. NetherRealm and Warner Bros. haven't commented on refunds for players who invested in in-game currency or customization items, promising further information soon. Players are advised to monitor the official X (formerly Twitter) account for updates regarding refunds.

Launched in October 2023 to commemorate the franchise's 30th anniversary, Mortal Kombat: Onslaught offered a unique take on the series, blending intense combat with a cinematic narrative. Unlike previous entries, this action-adventure RPG focused less on direct fighting and more on a storyline centered around Raiden and the player's team preventing the fallen Elder God Shinnok's return to power. The game's free-to-play model, combined with its MOBA-like elements, set it apart within the Mortal Kombat universe.
