According to a recent report by Bloomberg, Warner Bros. has decided to cancel an unannounced paid DLC for their popular game, Hogwarts Legacy. The planned expansion was set to be a story addition that would have been released this year, accompanied by a "Definitive Edition" of the game. However, Bloomberg's sources revealed that Warner Bros. pulled the plug on the project this week, citing concerns that "the amount of content was not substantial enough to justify the price being considered." Warner Bros. did not respond to Bloomberg's request for comment on the matter.
This decision comes amid a broader restructuring effort within Warner Bros.' gaming division, driven by ongoing financial challenges. Earlier this year, the company canceled a planned Wonder Woman game and shut down the studio behind it, Monolith Productions, along with WB San Diego and the MultiVersus studio, Player First Games. Additionally, Warner Bros. conducted layoffs at Rocksteady as recently as last September.
Despite the cancellation of the Hogwarts Legacy DLC, Warner Bros. continues to emphasize the importance of the Hogwarts Legacy franchise and the broader Harry Potter universe, which they consider among their most valuable assets. The company has stated that a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy is "one of the biggest priorities" as they shift focus towards developing fewer but more significant franchises. The original game has achieved remarkable success, selling over 30 million copies.
