Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2’s Massive Success at Launch

Overwhelming Hit in Sales and Popularity Across All Platforms

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (KCD2) has taken the gaming world by storm with its impressive launch performance. Warhorse Studios proudly announced on Twitter (X) that KCD2 surpassed the milestone of selling over 1 million copies on February 4, 2025, eclipsing the original game's nine-day journey to the same number.

SteamDB reports that KCD2 achieved a peak of 176,285 concurrent players in the last 6 hours, far exceeding the all-time peak of 96,069 for its predecessor. On the PlayStation Store in the U.S., KCD2 ranks 12th among all games at the time of writing.

The game has earned a "Mighty" rating on OpenCritic with a score of 89 and a 97% critic recommendation rate, reflecting its strong appeal to both players and reviewers.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2’s Creative Director Responds to Negative Reviews

Despite the overwhelmingly positive reception, KCD2 has not been immune to criticism. Creative Director Daniel Vávra took to Twitter (X) to address some of the negative feedback the game has received. Certain video game review outlets have given KCD2 lower scores, describing the gameplay as a "slog" and suggesting it requires more effort than it should.

These lower scores have slightly impacted the game's overall rating on OpenCritic. Vávra responded with a mix of sarcasm and frustration, questioning the "excellent journalistic standards" of these critics.

Ongoing Online Criticism of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2

Vávra also confronted online critics who have attacked KCD2 for including same-sex romance options. On Twitter (X), he highlighted Metacritic user reviews that criticized the game as "historically inaccurate" and a "DEI game." He urged fans to leave their own reviews and report any bot-generated negative comments.

He clarified that the LGBTQ+ content in KCD2 is optional, dependent on player choices, fitting well within the game's open-world medieval setting where players have extensive freedom to shape their experience.
