Obsidian Entertainment CEO Feargus Urquhart recently provided an update on the development of The Outer Worlds 2 and Avowed, revealing smooth progress despite past challenges.
In a recent YouTube interview with Limit Break Network, Urquhart acknowledged the significant hurdles faced by the studio, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic and the period following Microsoft's acquisition. Juggling multiple projects, including Grounded and Pentiment, stretched the team thin. He candidly admitted a challenging period, even considering halting The Outer Worlds 2 development to prioritize Avowed. However, Obsidian ultimately persevered, continuing development across all titles.
"We were acquired [in 2018], then navigated the acquisition process, and then COVID hit," Urquhart recalled. "We were trying to finish Outer Worlds, its DLC, advance Avowed, start Outer Worlds 2, keep Grounded moving, and Josh was working on Pentiment."
Urquhart highlighted the successful outcomes of Grounded and Pentiment, and expressed excitement about the progress of Avowed and the "incredible" state of The Outer Worlds 2. While specific game details remain undisclosed, given the delay of Avowed to 2025, similar adjustments to other projects are anticipated.
