EA's VP Vince Zampella provided an update on the current state of the Need for Speed franchise. With NFS Unbound released over two years ago and no subsequent announcements, Zampella clarified the reason for the silence: Criterion Games, the studio behind Need for Speed, is fully committed to developing the next Battlefield game.
EA's primary focus is on this new Battlefield title, a project involving four studios and incorporating substantial player feedback to avoid repeating the missteps of Battlefield 2042. This player-centric approach extends to future Need for Speed content as well.
It's highly probable that EA will return its attention to Need for Speed only after the launch and initial post-release support of the new Battlefield game. This delay might prove beneficial; recent Need for Speed entries haven't met fan expectations, and a strategic pause could allow for a more successful franchise reboot, built on player feedback and a renewed sense of anticipation.
In short, don't anticipate any Need for Speed news in the immediate future.
