This Three Kingdoms-themed chess game offers diverse gameplay modes, allowing players to conquer levels, challenge various heroes, and hone their endgame skills. Xiangqi, a classic two-player Chinese game with a rich history, uses simple yet engaging pieces, making it a popular pastime.
The Chess Pieces:
The game features 32 pieces, 16 red and 16 black, each side possessing seven types:
General/Will: The red General and black Will are the leaders, the ultimate targets for each side. They move one square horizontally or vertically within their nine-square palace, and can never occupy squares directly opposite each other.
Advisors/Mandarins: These pieces move diagonally one square within the nine-square palace.
Elephants/Bishops: These pieces move diagonally two squares, but cannot cross the "river" (the central horizontal line) or jump over other pieces.
Chariots/Rooks: These are the most powerful pieces, moving any number of squares horizontally or vertically, unimpeded by other pieces.
Cannons: These pieces move like chariots, but to capture a piece, they must jump over another piece (either their own or the opponent's).
Horses/Knights: These pieces move in an "L" shape: one square horizontally or vertically, then one square diagonally. They cannot jump over other pieces.
Soldiers/Pawns: These pieces move forward one square. Before crossing the river, they can only move forward. After crossing, they can also move one square laterally.
The game unfolds with alternating moves, employing strategic principles of attack, defense, and deception, culminating in checkmating the opponent's General. The red side moves first. The game ends when one player checkmates the other's General, or a draw is declared. Xiangqi challenges players to sharpen their strategic thinking and problem-solving skills through complex tactical situations.
