The developers at MercurySteam, alumni of Rebel Act Studios, bring a rich heritage to their new project, Blades of Fire. Rebel Act Studios is renowned for their cult classic, Severance: Blade of Darkness, released in 2001. This game was celebrated for its innovative combat system that allowed players to sever enemies' limbs, infusing gameplay with a visceral sense of brutality and realism. Severance has served as a pivotal inspiration for MercurySteam's new endeavor.
While rooted in the past, Blades of Fire also draws heavily from contemporary action-adventure games. A prime example is the God of War reboot by Santa Monica Studio, which influenced the game's cinematic combat and richly detailed world. MercurySteam's goal is to blend fast-paced action with RPG elements to deliver an immersive and engaging gaming experience.
One standout feature of Blades of Fire is its unique weapon crafting system. Players will have the opportunity to forge their own blades, adjusting attributes like length, weight, durability, and balance. This customization allows players to create weapons that perfectly suit their preferred combat style, enhancing the personal touch to their gaming experience.
The narrative of Blades of Fire centers around the warrior Aran de Lira, who embarks on a perilous quest against a cunning queen with the power to turn metal into stone. Throughout his journey, Aran will confront 50 different types of enemies, each demanding a strategic and unique approach to combat.
Mark your calendars for the release of Blades of Fire on May 22, 2025. The game will be available on PC (Epic Games Store), Xbox Series, and PlayStation 5, promising a thrilling addition to the action-adventure genre.
