Following the Game Awards 2024, The Witcher 4 game director Sebastian Kalemba and executive producer Gosia Mitręga revealed key details. The village showcased in the trailer is named Stromford, a place where a disturbing ritual involving young girls takes place to appease a terrifying entity.

This entity, revealed as the "Bauk," is a formidable monster inspired by Serbian mythology. Kalemba described it as a cunning and fearsome adversary. Beyond the Bauk, players can anticipate a diverse array of new monstrous encounters.

While Kalemba expressed enthusiasm about these new elements, he remained tight-lipped regarding specific details, promising a truly unique experience within the familiar setting of The Continent.

A subsequent Skill UP interview confirmed that the game's map size will be comparable to The Witcher 3. Given Stromford's location in the far north, Ciri's journey will extend beyond the regions previously explored by Geralt.

Revolutionizing NPCs in The Witcher 4

The Gamertag Radio interview also highlighted significant advancements in NPC design. Acknowledging criticisms of The Witcher 3's repeated NPC models, Kalemba emphasized a commitment to creating unique and richly detailed characters, each with their own individual stories and interactions. The isolated nature of Stromford, for instance, will influence the relationships and behaviors of its inhabitants.
