The Witcher 4 Expands its World with New Regions and Monsters
CD Projekt Red recently confirmed the introduction of entirely new regions and monsters in The Witcher 4, during an interview with Gamertag Radio.
Following the Game Awards 2024, The Witcher 4 game director Sebastian Kalemba and executive producer Gosia Mitręga revealed key details. The village showcased in the trailer is named Stromford, a place where a disturbing ritual involving young girls takes place to appease a terrifying entity.
This entity, revealed as the "Bauk," is a formidable monster inspired by Serbian mythology. Kalemba described it as a cunning and fearsome adversary. Beyond the Bauk, players can anticipate a diverse array of new monstrous encounters.
While Kalemba expressed enthusiasm about these new elements, he remained tight-lipped regarding specific details, promising a truly unique experience within the familiar setting of The Continent.
A subsequent Skill UP interview confirmed that the game's map size will be comparable to The Witcher 3. Given Stromford's location in the far north, Ciri's journey will extend beyond the regions previously explored by Geralt.
The Gamertag Radio interview also highlighted significant advancements in NPC design. Acknowledging criticisms of The Witcher 3's repeated NPC models, Kalemba emphasized a commitment to creating unique and richly detailed characters, each with their own individual stories and interactions. The isolated nature of Stromford, for instance, will influence the relationships and behaviors of its inhabitants.
CD Projekt Red is focusing on enhancing visual fidelity, behavioral patterns, and facial expressions to create a more immersive and believable world. The aim is to deliver an even more engaging experience than its predecessor.
While much remains undisclosed, these revelations promise a significant leap forward in NPC interaction and overall immersion. For more on The Witcher 4, be sure to check out our dedicated article!
