Hideki Kamiya, the visionary behind the iconic Devil May Cry, has expressed a keen interest in revisiting his classic work with a full-fledged remake. Dive deeper to understand Kamiya's vision for the remake and the intriguing origins of the original game.
The gaming industry has seen a surge in remakes of classic titles by legendary developers, including Final Fantasy VII, Silent Hill 2, and Resident Evil 4. Joining this trend could be the original Devil May Cry (DMC), as its creator, Hideki Kamiya, has shown enthusiasm for remaking it.
In a recent video on his YouTube channel, dated May 8, Kamiya engaged with fans, discussing potential remakes and sequels. When prompted about a DMC remake, he enthusiastically stated, "A remake like that, well, I would like to do that."
Originally released in 2001, Devil May Cry was initially conceived as Resident Evil 4. However, a significant shift in its core concepts led Capcom to transform it into DMC.
Now, nearly 25 years later, Kamiya reflected on the game's origins. He shared a personal anecdote, revealing that in 2000, a painful breakup left him in a state of depression. This emotional turmoil fueled the creation of DMC, a game that remains a testament to his resilience and creativity.
Kamiya admits he rarely replays his games post-release, including DMC. Yet, whenever he encounters gameplay footage, he is reminded of its age, noting the game's design feels "old-timey." Should he embark on a remake, Kamiya plans to rebuild it from scratch, leveraging modern technology and contemporary game design principles.
Although not actively pondering the project, Kamiya's creative juices start flowing only when a project is confirmed. He confidently assured Capcom, "But if the time comes— I’ll come up with something. That’s what I do." Beyond DMC, Kamiya also expressed interest in remaking Viewtiful Joe. With these insights, fans of his work eagerly anticipate the potential return of these cherished titles as remakes in the near future.
