inZOI's game director has revealed exciting plans for a Karma system, introducing the intriguing concept of ghost Zois to the game. Let's delve into this paranormal game mechanic.
In a February 7, 2025 Discord post, inZOI's game director, Hyungjun Kim, unveiled a Karma system. This system will determine the fate of deceased Zois, transforming them into ghosts based on their accumulated Karma points. Kim intriguingly blends realism with the paranormal, explaining that Zois with sufficient Karma points peacefully move on, while those with insufficient points linger as ghosts until they atone. The exact methods for restoring Karma points remain undisclosed.
Kim emphasized the team's intention to keep ghost interactions limited, avoiding overshadowing the core gameplay while ensuring engaging experiences. In the Early Access version, interactions with ghost Zois will be restricted to specific times and conditions.
Kim further shared the team's long-term vision, stating, "While we’re committed to refining the realistic elements of inZOI first, I’d love to explore more fantasy-driven elements in the future. Occasionally stepping away from the game's native, ultra-realistic setting could add an extra layer of fun to our simulation of this vast and complex concept we call life!"
Krafton Inc., inZOI's publisher, collaborated with content creators in August 2024, offering glimpses of the Karma system. MadMorph, one such partner, briefly showcased "Karma Interactions" in their video. This feature presents players with various choices, impacting their Karma score. MadMorph's video demonstrated a humorous example—secretly farting on another Zoi's face—alongside hints at positive actions like "Throw Away Trash" or "Like a Friend’s post," although these weren't fully shown.
While the Early Access release (March 28, 2025 on Steam) will focus on the living Zois experience, Kim confirmed that Karma Interactions will play a larger role in future updates. Players eager to explore this unique system will have to wait less than six weeks for the Early Access launch.
