Unfrozen Studio, the creators of Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era, have unveiled exciting new details about the Swarm faction, following its initial teaser. This unique castle faction draws inspiration from unexpected sources, transforming the original "Inferno" concept into the chillingly adaptive Swarm. The narrative unfolds on the continent of Jadame, weaving a compelling tale within the established Might & Magic lore.
The Swarm's defining characteristic is its remarkable adaptability. Some creatures possess abilities directly influenced by the opposing unit's level; the greater the disparity, the more devastating the attack. Others, like the mantises, boast tactical flexibility, choosing from three distinct abilities each round. A particularly gruesome yet effective strategy involves worms and locusts consuming corpses to heal and enhance their power – a skill that even your heroes can master.
In Olden Era, the insectoid race, previously only briefly mentioned in Might & Magic 8, takes center stage as the demonic threat. Unfrozen Studio has respectfully incorporated existing lore while adding layers of body horror and occultism, transforming the Swarm from a mere insect colony into a terrifying cult dedicated to a single, powerful overlord. Each member is a part of a vast collective consciousness, existing solely to execute its master's commands.
Gameplay revolves around the Swarm's "mono-faction" mechanic, rewarding players who field an army composed entirely of Swarm units. These units synergistically enhance one another. Furthermore, Swarm troops can summon cocoons, whose health scales with the overall army size. The cocoons hatch into temporary larval units, providing dynamic adaptability on the battlefield.
The Swarm's aggressive playstyle is defined by its unique abilities and the capacity for corpse consumption to bolster its forces. These creatures' abilities shift based on enemy strength, making for direct, intense confrontations and offering players a completely new combat strategy.
