inZOI's developer has issued an apology for including Denuvo DRM in their game and has committed to removing it. This decision comes after the discovery of Denuvo in the game's Creative Studio mode demo, sparking controversy due to the software's known impact on game performance. Denuvo DRM, designed to combat piracy by preventing unauthorized copying and distribution of PC games, has long been a contentious issue among gamers.
On March 26, inZOI Director Hyungjun 'Kjun' Kim used a Steam blog post to address these concerns, confirming that the upcoming Early Access build, set for release on March 28, 2025, will be free of DRM technology. "We initially chose to implement Denuvo as a way to protect the game from illegal distribution," Kjun explained, "At the time, we believed this would help ensure fairness for players who had properly purchased the game. However, after taking a closer look at community feedback, we quickly realized that this approach did not align with what our players wanted."
Kjun also apologized for not informing players about Denuvo's inclusion in the Creative Studio mode. He acknowledged that while removing DRM might increase the risk of the game being cracked and distributed illegally, it would make inZOI freely configurable, thereby enhancing players' ability to customize and create their own experiences. "We believe enabling this freedom from the very beginning will lead to innovative and long-lasting enjoyment for the community," he stated.
The commitment to modding is a core aspect of inZOI, making the initial inclusion of Denuvo even more surprising to the game's community, as it hinders the ability to add mods and other customizations. Kjun reaffirmed their dedication to modding, stating, "As I mentioned during the Online Showcase, we are committed to making inZOI a highly moddable game. Our first stage of official mod support will launch in May, allowing players to use tools like Maya and Blender to create custom content. But this is only the beginning. Over time, we plan to expand mod support across more areas of the game, so you can customize and enhance your experience in many different ways."
He promised a forthcoming post with more details on modding. Krafton, the game's developer, continues to prioritize player feedback, making necessary adjustments to ensure a high-quality gaming experience.
inZOI will launch in Early Access on March 28, 2025, exclusively on PC, with a full release planned for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC at a later date yet to be announced. To keep up with the latest developments on inZOI, be sure to check out our dedicated article below!
