As Monster Hunter Wilds' February 28th launch approaches, Capcom is actively investigating ways to reduce the recommended GPU specifications. This follows feedback from the community.
The official German Monster Hunter X/Twitter account confirmed this, also mentioning exploration of a dedicated PC benchmarking tool.
Currently, Capcom suggests an Nvidia GTX 1660 Super or AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT for 1080p at 30 FPS. This minimum spec requires a 720p internal resolution, upscaling to 1080p via DLSS or FSR at the lowest graphical settings.
For 1080p at 60 FPS with upscaling and frame generation technologies, the recommended GPUs are the RTX 2070 Super, RTX 4060, or AMD RX 6700 XT. Note that only the RTX 4060 natively supports Nvidia Frame Generation; the others rely on FSR 3, which exhibited ghosting issues in the previous beta.
Targeting 60 FPS with frame generation isn't optimal; Digital Foundry suggests a 40 FPS baseline for third-person games. Sub-60 FPS performance with upscaling can lead to increased latency and a less responsive feel.
The open beta revealed challenges for players with lower-end hardware, including those with mid-range cards like the RTX 3060, experiencing low-level of detail (LOD) bugs affecting texture quality.
Monster Hunter Wilds utilizes Capcom's RE Engine, previously seen in titles like Resident Evil 7, Devil May Cry 5, Monster Hunter Rise, and Street Fighter 6. While generally praised for performance, the engine has faced performance hurdles in larger open-world games with numerous NPCs and enemies (e.g., Dragon's Dogma 2). Capcom's efforts to lower GPU requirements are crucial for the game's PC reception.
