In a recent interview, Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz, former lead quest designer for The Witcher 3, discussed CD Projekt Red's initial concerns about integrating a sprawling narrative into an open-world environment.

Tomaszkiewicz noted the bold ambition of merging extensive storytelling techniques, typically found in linear RPGs like The Witcher 2, with the open-world format. He highlighted the rarity of such a successful undertaking.
CD Projekt Red initially feared a conflict between the story's grand scale and the open-world design. However, the team proceeded, resulting in the critically acclaimed The Witcher 3. Now leading Rebel Wolves, Tomaszkiewicz is spearheading The Blood of Dawnwalker, a dark fantasy game set in an alternate medieval Eastern Europe, focusing on vampires.
The Blood of Dawnwalker is in development for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. While a release date remains unannounced, a gameplay reveal is anticipated this summer.
