In a recent interview at PAX West 2024, Xbox CEO Phil Spencer openly discussed past decisions, acknowledging some significant missed opportunities. He cited the Destiny and Guitar Hero franchises as examples of regrettable choices, admitting they were among the "worst" decisions of his career.
Despite his early involvement with Bungie (the Destiny developers) during his time at Microsoft, Spencer admitted that Destiny initially didn't resonate with him. It wasn't until the House of Wolves expansion that he fully grasped the game's appeal. Similarly, he expressed initial skepticism towards Guitar Hero when it was first pitched.
However, Spencer emphasized his forward-looking approach, stating he doesn't dwell on past regrets. He highlighted the numerous games he passed on, but prefers to focus on the future and Xbox's current projects.
