"We wanted to balance against that and find unique experiences," Connell stated, emphasizing a departure from the formula of its predecessor. The sequel will also introduce firearms alongside the katana, offering players expanded combat options.

While Ghost of Tsushima boasts an 83 Metacritic score, critiques frequently pointed to repetitive gameplay. Reviews described it as "overfamiliar" and suggested a more focused design might have improved the experience. Many felt the game suffered from a limited enemy variety and overly familiar gameplay loops.
