Capcom is actively enhancing the performance of Monster Hunter Wilds ahead of its official launch, with a particular focus on optimizing PC hardware requirements. Read on to discover more about Capcom’s ongoing efforts to improve the game's technical performance.
As revealed by the official German Twitter (X) account for Monster Hunter Wilds on January 19, 2025, Capcom is making significant progress in improving the game’s overall performance before release.
In a recent post, Monster Hunter Germany shared a gameplay clip showing a hunter engaging Quematrice—an avian brute wyvern—demonstrating the newly implemented "Prioritize Framerate" mode on PS5. This feature boosts frame rates at the expense of some visual effects, resulting in a smoother and more responsive experience.
The update also confirmed that similar optimization work is being carried out for the PC version. Specifically, Capcom is exploring ways to potentially reduce the recommended GPU specifications. “Performance will be improved in a similar way and we are looking into whether we can lower the recommended GPU requirements,” stated the social media update.
Currently, the minimum supported GPUs include the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Super and AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT. If successful, Capcom’s optimizations could allow players with lower or mid-tier graphics cards to run the game comfortably, thereby expanding accessibility for a broader audience.
Additionally, Capcom plans to release a free benchmarking tool, enabling players to test their system performance and determine optimal settings for running Monster Hunter Wilds. This means many gamers may not need to upgrade their rigs if the company successfully lowers the GPU demands.
During the initial open beta test held in October and November 2024, many players encountered performance issues that impacted their experience. Steam users reported low-poly NPC models and monster designs so rough they resembled visuals from the PlayStation 1 era.
Beyond the questionable character modeling, some players experienced severe frame rate drops and stuttering—even on high-end PCs. While lowering graphical settings helped improve performance, it often came at the cost of visual fidelity, making the game appear even less polished.
Despite these early concerns, Capcom responded to feedback and addressed several performance-related bugs. On November 1, 2024, the developer noted: “The issue of afterimage noise occurring in certain environments when Frame Generation is enabled will be fixed in the full game, which is already in a more improved state compared to the beta test.”
Gamers may soon witness these improvements firsthand, as Capcom announced a second Open Beta Test featuring the Bird Wyvern Gypceros and an undisclosed monster. The event is scheduled for February 7–10 and 14–17 across PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. It remains to be seen whether the latest performance enhancements will be included in this upcoming test phase.
