Battlefield Labs: Shaping the Future of Battlefield Through Community Collaboration
Battlefield Studios, in partnership with Electronic Arts (EA), launched Battlefield Labs on February 3, 2025 – a revolutionary platform designed to foster unprecedented collaboration between players and developers. This initiative allows players to directly influence the development of future Battlefield installments by testing pre-release game elements and providing valuable feedback.
A New Era of Player Involvement
The announcement highlighted the crucial developmental stage the upcoming Battlefield game has entered, emphasizing the unparalleled benefits of community involvement. Selected players from European and North American servers will be the first to experience Battlefield Labs, offering direct input on new features and mechanics. While a precise release date remains unannounced, interested individuals can register their interest via the provided link.
Vince Zampella, Head of Respawn and Group GM for EA Studios Organization, stated, "This game has immense potential. Battlefield Labs empowers our teams to tap into that potential by testing pre-alpha experiences and incorporating player feedback." While participation is initially limited, Battlefield Studios assures the broader community will receive regular updates throughout the testing phase. Future Battlefield titles are also slated for similar community collaborations.
Battlefield Studios comprises DICE (creators of the Battlefield franchise), Ripple Effect, Motive (developers of Star Wars Squadrons and Dead Space), and Criterion (renowned for racing games and contributions to various Battlefield titles).
Testing Core Gameplay Elements
Battlefield Labs will initially focus on testing fundamental gameplay pillars, including core combat and destruction mechanics. This will be followed by balance and feedback sessions on weapons, vehicles, gadgets, maps, modes, and squad play. Two established modes, Conquest and Breakthrough, will also be included, providing opportunities to refine existing gameplay.
Conquest, a large-scale battle mode centered around capturing control points (flags), utilizes a ticket system where teams lose tickets upon respawns or enemy flag control. Breakthrough pits attackers against defenders, with attackers gaining tickets by securing sectors and eliminating remaining enemy soldiers.
The class system is another area ripe for refinement, with Battlefield Studios actively seeking player feedback to achieve the optimal balance of form, function, and feel. While internal playtesting is extensive, the studio recognizes the invaluable contribution of player feedback in shaping the final product.
